Adoption of social media computing is riddled with significant risks and challenges. Mr. Toby Bell, Vice President in Gartner Research, will begin the meeting with a presentation on “Managing Reputation and Policy in the Social Media Chaos“. He will outline how risk managers, CIOs, and product specialists can establish Internet “reputation” management strategies, and cover some of the technologies that can be used. Social media monitoring and crafting policies that help promote 'safe social' engagement by employees are two crucial first steps. He will examine how the potential damage to reputation that could be wrought by social communities (FaceBook, LinkedIn, MySpace), microblogs (Twitter, Blippy), real time search, blogs and message boards could threaten the future of even the most stable businesses. This presentation includes an interactive assessment of the threats and opportunities facing every business, focusing on the CIO role and responsibilities in facing this challenge. Some of the key questions examined include: - What is reputation risk?
- What are some sources and scoring measures for reputation?
- What can we learn from recent negative reputation events?
- How can my enterprise leverage technology and policy to help manage reputation?
