Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum - Meeting Announcement Topic: Asset Tracking Date: November 20, 2008 Location: Towson University Please plan to join CIO members and invited guests at the November 20 meeting of the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum. The topic for this meeting is “Asset Tracking”. Management of assets across departments, across business units and across supply chains poses significant challenges in today’s marketplace. In this meeting, the Forum will look at enterprise asset tracking and management first from a strategic, holistic view and then drill down into practical applications using today’s technologies. The first part of this meeting will include a presentation by Dave Loesch, Senior Director, Supply Chain Solutions, Oracle, Corp. and discussion about asset management across the enterprise. “Asset-intensive industries like mining, utilities and process manufacturing can have hundreds of millions of dollars invested in capital assets. Other industries, like education, healthcare and government can have equivalent amounts invested in buildings, vehicles and other property. Virtually all companies are looking for more efficient and cost effective ways to manage their growing base of technology assets. Whether you’re tracking poles, PCs or pumps, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software is designed to help you lower asset management costs, insure capacity for the fulfillment of your mission, and maintain compliance with regulatory bodies. This presentation focuses on the options available for developing an organization-wide EAM strategy in the context of the trajectory of this three decade old market. New developments in RFID and reliability centered maintenance will also be discussed.” (D. Loesch, Oracle Corp.) In the second part of the meeting, the group will take a more in-depth look at the practical use of technology in the implementation of asset management strategies. This portion of the program will include a presentation by Alan Melling, Senior Director RFID Product & Program Management, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Business. “While IT systems provide much of the information needed to provide this visibility, automatic data capture systems of various types – bar code scanners, portable data terminals, and RFID systems – are normally needed to reconcile gaps between the virtual view of the world and reality. In his presentation, Mr. Melling will discuss how these technologies are applied across a variety of industry sectors, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each in particular applications.” (A. Melling, Motorola, Inc.) This meeting is a Roundtable Plus meeting. Only CIO members, guest CIOs and guests invited by CIO members for this roundtable will be attending. The roundtable format will be used and all participants will have signed a non-disclosure agreement. (NDA). Please join our members at the meeting! The meeting starts at 8:00 AM and ends by 1PM. Brunch and lunch are provided. Pre-registration is required. Meeting logistics including agenda, directions to the meeting place and parking information will be emailed to you after you register.
