Technology Convergence:CIO roundtable
CIO Only
Thu 05/18/2006

Please plan to join CIO members and CIO guests at the last Forum meeting of the current 2005-2006 year. A special event has been arranged and you do not want to miss it. Following the tradition of the Forum whereby one meeting annually is held at a member site, the May 18 meeting will be hosted by Constellation Energy at their corporate headquarters in the Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD.

The format for this meeting is a CIO Roundtable. The meeting will have two parts. In the first part, Kevin Avery, Enterprise East Area Manager, Unified Communications Technology & Applications, Cisco Systems, Inc. will address the Roundtable on "Technology Convergence: Trends, Opportunities and Challenges". Enterprises today need to think differently about information and communications services. Viable options in addressing networking and infrastructure solutions focus on technology convergence, the convergence of voice and data technologies which include Voice Over IP (VOIP) and Computer Telephony Integration (CTI). Through practical examples, case studies and analytical observations on technology convergence, Kevin will provide insights into successful convergence migrations. He will discuss how to make convergence more about enabling business transformation rather than just cost efficiencies.

The second part of the meeting is restricted to CIO participants and includes presentation and roundtable discussion. All participants will have signed a non-disclosure agreement. Tim Waire, CTO of Constellation Energy, will discuss "Strategy for Transition to Digitized Voice at Constellation Energy." Tim has arranged for a demo of their Cisco VoIP implementation coupled with Microsoft's Office Communicator as part of the Constellation Energy presentation. The remainder of the time in this half of the meeting is open roundtable discussion on topics raised by participants.

Constellation Energy has arranged a special opportunity for meeting participants immediately after lunch. Stu Rubenstein, COO of Constellation Energy Commodities Group, will conduct a short tour and overview of the business. A unique opportunity to see a trading floor in action!

The meeting starts at 8:00 AM. Brunch and lunch are provided. The meeting runs until early afternoon because of the tour that is being held after lunch. Pre-registration is required. Meeting logistics including agenda, directions to the meeting place and parking information will be emailed to you after you register. For registration for this meeting, please contact: Catherine Swift at cswift@towson.edu or 410-704-4252.
