Please plan to join fellow CIO Forum members and invited guests at the September meeting of the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum. The Forum provides an environment committed to fostering excellence in business and information technology. It is a non-profit organization founded by CIO's for CIO's. Come and join us on Thursday, September 15 at 8:00 AM. This meeting is a unique opportunity to hear and dialogue with two outstanding industry leaders in cyber defense on two key topics - security management, particularly regarding the Internet and ensuring data privacy for customer and employee data. Dr. Peter Tippett, the Chief Technology Officer of CyberTrust, will discuss "Security Management: An Evolving Challenge". Dr. Tippett will focus on security on the Internet; now and in the foreseeable future. What are new trends and threats on the Internet? What are practical measures and tools requisite to a robust security infrastructure? Dr. Tippett will identify key security strategies for CIO's to consider. Peter Tippett is well known as an information security visionary. He is the CTO of CyberTrust, and the Chief Scientist at ICSA Labs. Dr. Tippett specializes in utilizing large-scale risk models and research to create pragmatic, corporate-wide security programs. He is widely credited with creating the first commercial anti-virus product, which later became Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus. The second part of the program will be a presentation and discussion with Tom Noonan, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS). Data theft is the top security story of 2005. Protecting critical data requires all stakeholders - from companies and technology providers to government and consumers - to play an active role in the security of personal and sensitive information. A direct correlation exists between protecting your data and protecting your bottom line. This discussion will cover the impact of security breaches, the privacy debate and the current regulation atmosphere surrounding it as well as advice on implementing an effective strategy essential for staying ahead of the threat. Mr. Noonan is responsible for the overall strategic direction, growth and management of ISS. In 2002, President Bush appointed Noonan to serve on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC), a homeland defense initiative that protects information systems that are critical to the nation's infrastructure. He currently chairs the NIAC Evaluation and Enhancement of Information Sharing and Analysis Working Group. Mark your calendar! The meeting starts at 8:00 AM and is held on campus at Towson University. Pre-registration is required. Meeting logistics will be emailed to you after you register.
